The changing cultural composition in the United States has contributed to the acknowledgment of the need for the counseling profession to develop multicultural perspectives and competencies. However, research shows that current counselor training programs are significantly inadequate in dealing with multicultural issues and preparing students for work with a diverse client base. For therapists to address effectively and appropriately the mental health concerns of their culturally diverse clients, it is essential that they receive sufficient training. This project addresses the need for multicultural infusion into graduate level counseling courses by providing a compendium of multicultural exercises. Current literature was reviewed and experiential activities were chosen based on four inclusion criteria. The compendium was created to guide professors on infusing graduate courses with multiculturalism by incorporating activities that address multicultural issues and topics pertinent to counselor training. |
