Title: Residential energy gateway system in smart grid
Author: Thirumurthy, Vinod Govindswamy
Abstract: This project discusses about the residential energy gateway in the Smart Grid. A residential energy gateway is a critical component in the Home Energy Management program by the utilities. The residential gateway provides an interface for the consumer to monitor & manage their energy consumption. It also provides interoperability between the utility communication network and home area network. Residential gateway solutions like Utility Smart Network Access Port (U-SNAP), ZigBee based gateway, Open Service Gateway initiative (OSGi) based gateway and the Intel’s Arch Rock Energy optimizer have been discussed. A security threat analysis has been performed on the residential gateway and countermeasures for these vulnerabilities are discussed. Taking into account the requirements of Smart Grid, some of the countermeasures mentioned are inadequate and hence these countermeasures are identified as areas of research.
