Title: Hmong elders' social and cultural barriers toward seeking Western healthcare

Abstract: This research study explores the social and cultural barriers that Hmong elders faced in seeking western healthcare. It is the understanding of the researcher that Hmong elders lack adequate healthcare; therefore contributing to the gab in healthcare disparity among the Hmong population. To explore the barriers to Hmong elders’ resistance of western healthcare, the researcher conducted interviews on 50 Hmong participants who were 60 years of age or older living in the greater Sacramento region. The researcher recruited participants using the snowball sampling procedure and conducted the interviews in the Hmong dialect using a survey consisting of open-ended and closed ended questions. . The study indicated that there is still a strong cultural and religious influenced especially, among those who are still traditional in their religious belief when it comes to their health seeking behaviors.
