Title: Bridging the gap between Eastern and Western medicine: resource guide to Chinese medicine for oncology patients
Author: Chan, Bena
Abstract: This project is a qualitative study about Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), and its benefits for oncology patients. Due to the growing popularity of this complementary action, and the lack of support from current Western medicine, there are risks to patients who choose to use TCM in their treatment. Benefits of using TCM include patients’ ability to take control back in their medical treatment, giving a strong sense of self-esteem, and empowerment. This project includes a resource manual to TCM and a proposed social work position in an oncology clinic. The social worker will be available to guide and provide safe sources of TCM to those patients wishing to learn more about and possibly use alternative methods.
