Title: Salute to the arts and self esteem through music in education
Author: Matchette, Marcia Kae Karstetter
Abstract: Students in classrooms of today are required to meet academic performance through lecture provided by the teacher by way of district and state mandated materials. The learning style of the individual student may vary yet direct instruction is a norm with limited flexibility. Statistics show a reduced number of students moving on to the upper grades to graduation level each year. This may be attributed to students’ low self esteem and repeated rather than diverse style of teacher guided lesson delivery. This study will deliver instruction designed to develop positive self esteem through visual and performing arts and active student engagement via songs of strength.
