Abstract: This project, a handbook, was designed to incorporate all current research in order to assist instructors in implementing a writing workshop during non-school hours for grades third through sixth. Once used, it is going to provide an opportunity for students to write outside the regular school day. Along with time provided, the writing handbook explains strategies to implement that have been proven successful in other studies. This project will present a review of literature in support of the handbook that addresses: - Today’s educational system. - Fiction - Writing Instruction and Instructional Strategies The goal of the present research is to incorporate the use of effective writing strategies and fiction in a writing workshop in an afterschool setting.
